Which porta potty do I need?
A standard porta potty is the right unit for most Milwaukee jobsites and backyard parties. Choose a deluxe flushing unit when guests expect a sink, a wheelchair-accessible unit for any event open to the public, and a restroom trailer when a wedding or corporate event has 150 or more guests.
| Unit | Best for | Flushing | Handwashing | Accessibility | Needs water/power | Space needed |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard porta potty | Jobsites, parties, block parties | No | Sanitizer dispenser inside | Step-up entry | No / No | About 4 × 4 ft pad |
| Deluxe flushing unit | Weddings, graduations, guests who dislike "the hole" | Yes (foot pump) | Sink inside | Step-up entry | No / No | About 4 × 4 ft pad |
| Wheelchair-accessible unit | Public events, older guests, strollers | No | Sanitizer inside | Ground-level floor, 60-in turning space, grab bars | No / No | About 87 × 87 in |
| Restroom trailer | Weddings, corporate events, 150+ guests | Yes (real toilets) | Vanity sinks, running water | Steps (not wheelchair) | Hose or tank / 110V outlet | Level spot 8 × 20 ft + truck access |
| Handwashing station | Food service, jobsites, kids | — | 2 basins, soap, towels | Reachable from standing | No / No | About 3 × 2 ft |

How many units does my event need?
Most Milwaukee events need 1 standard porta potty per 50 guests for up to 4 hours, 1 per 40 guests for 5–8 hours, and 1 per 30 guests for longer days. Add 1 unit for every 5 when alcohol is served. A 150-guest, 5-hour party with a bar needs 5 units.
- 150 guests ÷ 40 guests per unit (5–8 hours) = 4 units (rounded up)
- Alcohol served: add 1 unit for every 5 → +1
- Make 1 of them wheelchair-accessible (at least 1 in every 20, ADA §213.2 for events open to the public)
- Handwashing: 2 stations (1 per 4 toilets)

What 155 rental calls taught us about renting a porta potty
We studied 155 recorded calls that renters made to porta potty companies across the U.S., with names and addresses removed. 48% of callers asked for the price before anything else, 21% needed delivery the same day or the next day, and 31% had a question about gates, driveways or where the unit could go.
What callers asked about (share of 155 calls)
The biggest frustration in those calls was not price itself. It was fees that showed up after the quote: fuel surcharges, 3% card fees and removal fees. That is why our quote lists every line before you agree, and why we do not charge those fees at all.

Milwaukee rules and weather that change your rental
Three Milwaukee facts change how a porta potty rental should be set up: street placement needs a public-way permit, the City bans street and alley placement from December 1 to March 1, and Milwaukee averages about 123 nights a year at or below freezing, so winter units need antifreeze.
Street placement needs a permit
The City of Milwaukee requires a public-way occupancy permit from the Development Center for containers on the street or sidewalk, and bans placement on open streets and alleys from Dec. 1 to Mar. 1. Wauwatosa's right-of-way permit names portable toilets and costs $75 for up to 7 days. We place units on driveways and private lots whenever we can, so most renters need no permit.
Winter needs antifreeze
NOAA normals for Milwaukee show a January average low of 17.2°F and about 123 nights a year at or below 32°F. From mid-October to late April we add non-toxic antifreeze to every tank and swap water sinks for sanitizer, at no extra charge.
Summer books up
Summerfest runs three June–July weekends and the Wisconsin State Fair runs 11 days in August in West Allis. Those weeks pull units across the metro. For June–August parties, book 2–4 weeks ahead; for wedding trailers, book 2–6 months ahead.

Porta potty rental questions, answered
These are the 8 questions Milwaukee porta potty renters ask most before booking: price, same-day delivery, being home, supplies, weekend timing, deposits, who owns the trucks and extensions. Every answer lists the real number or condition. The full list of 100+ questions is on the FAQ page.
How much does it cost to rent a porta potty in Milwaukee?
A standard porta potty for a weekend event in Milwaukee County starts at about $195 with delivery and pickup included. A jobsite unit with weekly service starts at about $185 per 28 days. Deluxe flushing units, accessible units and restroom trailers cost more. Your written quote lists every charge. See the porta potty pricing guide.
Can you deliver a porta potty today?
Yes. Walter Rental Works delivers same day in Milwaukee County when you call (414) 392-3756 by noon, Monday through Saturday. After noon, we usually deliver first thing the next morning. Farther suburbs like Racine and Germantown are usually next-day.
Do I have to be home when you deliver?
No. Most renters are not home. Mark the spot with a cone, chalk or a photo texted to dispatch, leave the gate unlocked or share the code, and the driver places it and texts a photo.
Does the porta potty come with toilet paper and hand sanitizer?
Yes. Every unit arrives with two or more rolls of toilet paper, a full hand sanitizer dispenser, a seat cover and deodorizer in the tank. Deluxe units also have soap and paper towels by the sink.
Why does a weekend party rental cover Friday to Monday?
Our drivers deliver weekend units on Friday and pick them up Monday so your party is never waiting on a truck. You pay one event price for the whole stretch, up to 7 days — no extra day charges.
Do you charge a deposit or a cancellation fee?
There is no separate deposit. You pay the quoted rental to reserve the date. Cancel 24 hours or more before delivery for a full refund. Details are in our rental terms.
Are you a local company or a national broker?
Walter Rental Works is a local, owner-run company. Our trucks leave from 5801 W. Bluemound Rd. in Milwaukee, and the person who answers can see the actual route board.
What if I need it longer than I planned?
Call or text and we extend it. Event rentals cover up to 7 days. Past that, the rental switches to our 28-day jobsite rate with weekly service, and we tell you before anything changes.
Why I run it this way
I started Walter Rental Works because Milwaukee renters kept telling me the same story: a low price on the phone, then a fuel fee, a card fee and a removal fee on the bill. So we quote one total, we answer our own phone, and we deliver the same day when you are in a jam.
If a unit is not clean when it arrives, call me and we swap it the same day. If you are not sure what you need, call and ask — I would rather talk you out of a unit you do not need than have you overpay.
