Placement

Will a standard porta potty fit through my gate?

A standard porta potty fits through a gate about 48 inches wide. The unit is about 44 inches wide, and the two-person crew needs a couple of inches on each side to carry it. Gates narrower than 48 inches mean we set the unit on the driveway instead.

  • Ground: flat and firm — concrete, asphalt, packed gravel or level lawn. Avoid slopes and soft mulch beds.
  • Truck reach: the truck needs to park within about 25 feet; farther than that, tell us so we bring a cart.
  • Door direction: face the door away from the street for privacy, or toward the work area for crews.
  • Winter: keep a shoveled path; we add antifreeze from mid-October to late April.

From the U.S. call study: 31% of the 155 calls in our U.S. call study asked about gates, driveways or placement. The most common was "Does it need to be in the driveway, or can it go behind the garage?" Behind the garage works when the path is 48 inches wide and firm.

Capacity

How many people can use one standard porta potty?

One standard porta potty serves about 50 guests at a 4-hour event, or a construction crew of up to 20 workers for a week between weekly cleanings. A standard porta potty with 200 uses per tank reaches its limit faster when alcohol is served or the event runs all day.

Standard porta potty: questions from real calls

Does the standard one have hand sanitizer, or a washing station?

A standard porta potty has a hand sanitizer dispenser inside. For soap and water, add a handwashing station or rent a deluxe unit with a sink.

Does it come with a lock? It will be out in public.

Yes. Every unit has an inside occupied/vacant latch. For jobsites and public spots, we can add a padlock hasp so you can lock it overnight.

They come on a skid, don't they? Can we move it ourselves?

Units sit on a molded base, not a skid. Please do not move a unit with waste in it; it can tip or spill. Call and we move it during the next service visit.

Is there a price difference between construction and event units?

The unit is the same type. The difference is the rental plan: event rentals cover up to 7 days with no mid-rental service, and jobsite rentals run 28 days with weekly service included.

Is a standard porta potty clean when it arrives?

Yes. Each unit is pumped, pressure-washed, sanitized and restocked before it leaves the yard. If it is not clean on arrival, call and we swap it the same day.

What color are your porta potties?

Most are blue or gray; we also have pink units popular for showers and parties. Ask when you book and we will send the color you want if it is in the yard.
