What is a portable handwashing station?
A portable handwashing station is a freestanding sink unit with its own fresh-water tank, a gray-water tank, foot pumps, soap and paper towel dispensers. A 2-basin portable handwashing station lets two people wash at once and holds enough water for about 400–500 hand washes between refills.

Do I need a handwashing station?
You need a handwashing station when food is served, when kids are attending, or when a construction crew works with materials that hand sanitizer cannot clean off, like concrete, adhesives or grease. OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51(f) requires washing facilities on construction sites where workers handle such substances.
- Events: 1 station per 4 toilets, plus 1 near the food line (our recommendation).
- Jobsites: washing facilities where crews handle paints, coatings or other contaminants — OSHA 1926.51(f).
- Farms: 1 handwashing facility per 20 field workers within a quarter-mile walk — OSHA 1928.110.
From the U.S. call study: 16% of the callers in our U.S. call study asked about handwashing. Two questions came up again and again: "Do you have units for people to wash their hands outside the bathroom?" (yes — this station) and "Does it come with hand wash inside?" (only the deluxe unit does).
Handwashing station: questions from real calls
Do you have units for people to wash their hands outside the bathroom?
Yes. The freestanding 2-basin station sits beside the toilets or near the food so people can wash without going inside a unit.
Is it cheaper to get the units with a sink inside than a separate hand-wash station?
For 1–2 toilets, deluxe units with sinks usually cost less overall. For 4 or more toilets, standard units plus one shared station cost less.
Does the station need a hose or power?
No. The station carries its own fresh and gray water tanks and uses foot pumps.
How often is a station refilled on a jobsite?
On the weekly service visit with the toilets. Large crews can add a second weekly visit.
Can I get a handwashing station without renting a toilet?
Yes. Food vendors, farmers markets and daycare outings rent stations on their own.
