Which porta potty fees surprise renters?
Five fees caused most of the surprises in the 155 rental calls in our U.S. call study. Each one was added after the caller heard the first price, which is why the final total felt like a bait-and-switch.
| Fee | What callers were charged elsewhere | Walter Rental Works |
|---|---|---|
| Fuel surcharge | About $35 per order | None |
| Credit card fee | 3% of the total | None |
| Removal fee at pickup | About $29 | None |
| Same-day "emergency" fee | $125–$227 | $0 before noon inside our 17-mile zone; $75 otherwise |
| Full month for a short job | 28 days billed for 3 days | Event rate up to 7 days; last cycle charged by the week |
| Separate delivery and pickup | $45–$150 | Included on event rentals; $60 once on monthly |
What questions get the real total?
- "What is the all-in total, with delivery, pickup and tax?"
- "Are there fuel, card, environmental or removal fees?"
- "How many days does this price cover?"
- "If I keep it one more week, what do I pay?"
- "What does the second month cost?"
Why do short rentals cost almost as much as long ones?
A porta potty rental is mostly trucking: one trip to deliver and one to pick up. A 1-day party and a 7-day rental need the same two trips, so most companies — including us — charge one event price for up to 7 days. The trap is when a 3-day job gets billed as a full 28-day month. Ask which plan you are on.
What does an honest quote look like?
An honest porta potty quote shows the unit, the number of days covered, delivery and pickup, any servicing, and sales tax as separate lines, with one total at the bottom. Ours look like the worked examples in our Milwaukee pricing guide.
Questions readers ask
Is a fuel surcharge normal for porta potty rental?
Many national companies add one. It is not required, and we do not charge it.
Can I refuse a card processing fee?
Ask whether paying by another method avoids it. With us there is no card fee to refuse.
Is sales tax a hidden fee?
No — Wisconsin taxes equipment rentals. It should be shown as its own line on the quote, not added at the end.
